KEY VERSE:
“Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God” (ROMANS 3:25).
A typical law court scenario paints a moment of palpable anxiety for the accused when the judge sits to pronounce the final verdict on the accusation brought against the defendant. When the judge pronounces, “discharged and acquitted”, the joy of liberty knows no bound. The legal term “acquittal” means a declaration that someone is free from all guilt and condemnation.
Sinners are in the wrong before God. They have broken His laws; therefore, they deserve punishment, but Christ took our place on the cross. When we put our trust in Christ, we are declared justified. The Scripture affirms in today’s text that all have sinned and come short of God’s glory. It all started in the Garden of Eden when Adam sinned and passed on the nature of sin to all his descendants.
Sin destroys every sense of decency in man. It is a universal spiritual disease that runs through every lineage, tribe and culture. It is transgressing the law of God. By grace, through faith in His atoning blood, we receive the forgiveness of every sin we confess and repent of. All can be saved through faith in Christ’s atonement.
Salvation is of grace received by faith. Our works of righteousness cannot save us. Salvation comes through faith in the finished work of Christ at Calvary. We should present this gospel truth to all men. So many are still struggling in vain to get themselves free from the shackles of sins through their various religions. How we need to help them to know that real salvation and freedom from sin can be obtained only through faith in the atoning blood of Jesus. They can escape eternal condemnation if only they can choose the way of salvation.
